This site is run by Keota Audio LLC, a limited liability company registered in Colorado, United States. If you want to ask anything about what is on this page, write to hello@keota.audio.

This site collects as little as it can, and there is no advertising on it. If you book a lesson, that is handled by a booking system described below, which does hold your contact details.

The drawing wall

If you draw something on the wall, the site stores your drawing, where you put it, and the time. To stop one person flooding the wall, it also stores a scrambled version of your IP address — the address itself is never saved, only a code made from it that cannot be read back without a secret kept on the server. That code is used for one thing: to check whether the same connection posted very recently.

Booking a lesson

Booking runs on a scheduling system hosted on our own server. To book, it asks for your name, email address and phone number, and it keeps the lessons you have booked, any notes attached to a booking, and your timezone. If you have lesson credit, that is tracked against your email address.

We use your email address to send you booking confirmations, reminders before a lesson, and calendar invitations. Those are part of the booking and are not optional.

If you booked a lesson before this system existed, your booking history was carried over from the previous scheduling service so that your lessons and any credit were not lost.

Signing in to your account

Anyone can sign in at the account page by typing an email address; you will only see lessons if that address has some. Typing an address stores it, whether or not you finish signing in. If you have booked a lesson with me, that is where you see your own lessons, your lesson credit and your receipts, and to cancel or rearrange a lesson yourself up to 24 hours before it starts. There is no password: you type your email address, I mail you a six-digit code, and you type it back.

To make that work the site stores your email address, a scrambled copy of each sign-in code, a session token that keeps you signed in, and a record of each cancellation or rearrangement you make.

What I keep about students, patrons and subscribers

If you have identified yourself to me — by booking a lesson, by signing in, by connecting a Patreon or Twitch account, by signing up for the Neckbeard beta, or by leaving feedback with your name on it — I keep a record about you in one place, so I am not hunting through five services to answer a question about your own lessons. It holds:

• your name and email address;
• your lesson history, going back to 2020 for long-standing students — the lessons themselves, what was paid, anything that was cancelled or rearranged and the reason given, and any notes you wrote when you booked;
• an activity record: when you signed in, which files you downloaded or previewed on the site, and other things you do here — signing up for the beta, leaving feedback, changing your profile, asking for a recording or asking to be deleted. Each entry carries the scrambled version of your IP address described above, never the address itself;
• a list of your lesson recordings — their names and dates, so I can find yours. The recordings themselves are on my own computer, as described below;
• anything I have written about our lessons, which is for teaching you and is not shown to anyone else.

This is not shared, not sold, and not used for advertising. The only companies that touch it are the ones named on this page — they run the server, the booking system, payments and email on my behalf.

Where the patron records came from

If you support me on Patreon, I hold a copy of the membership list Patreon gives me: your name, the email address on your Patreon account, whether your membership is current, the total you have contributed over time, and the Discord account you connected to Patreon yourself, where you connected one — Patreon passes that on to me as part of the same list. That came from Patreon rather than from you — it is how I know who my patrons are — and it includes people whose membership has ended.

I use it to recognise you when you sign in, and to connect a patron to a student where they are the same person. It is not shared, not sold, and not used for advertising. If you would rather I did not hold it, email hello@keota.audio and I will delete it.

Public posts about me

In August 2025 a public thread about me led to several comments threatening violence, and to one naming a venue I was due to perform at. Those comments are on record, word for word, as they were posted. I keep a record of that thread — the usernames and what each person publicly wrote, as they wrote it. I use it for one thing: to know, if someone applies to my Discord server or books a lesson, whether they are someone who talked about confronting me or explicitly threatened violence upon me.

It holds only what people published on a public forum themselves. I do not label anyone, I do not add anything I worked out about them, and nothing in it decides anything on its own — every decision is mine, made by hand. It is not shared, not published and not used for anything else. If you are in it and want to know what it says about you, or want it removed, email hello@keota.audio.

Lesson recordings

Lessons are recorded, both audio and video, and booking a lesson is your agreement to that. The recording is for you.

It is there so you can go back to what we covered, and it is kept indefinitely so an old lesson does not disappear on you.

I very rarely watch them back myself, and only to remind myself of something from your own lessons. One-to-one lessons are not published, not sold, and not shared with anyone else. Communal lessons and the master class are different: those recordings are uploaded to my Patreon (and the master class to YouTube) for subscribers at the tier that includes them — that is what those lessons are, and the page you book them from says so.

They are kept on my own computer and backed up to pCloud, a file-storage company, so that a failed hard drive does not lose your lessons. In time they will move onto the same server that runs this website.

If you want your recordings deleted, ask and I delete them by hand — the files are on my own computer.

The Neckbeard plugin

The plugin checks whether a newer version exists once, shortly after you open it (and again if you switch the check back on). It does this by downloading one small file from this website — the same file for everybody. It sends nothing about you, your computer, or your copy of the plugin, and the comparison happens on your machine. The website keeps no record of these checks. You can turn the check off inside the plugin — the "Check for Updates + Messages" switch in the OPT menu — and nothing about the plugin requires an internet connection.

Where the data is

On a server in Vienna, Austria, rented from Netcup, who host it on our behalf. Some of it also goes to companies that do one job each for me: Stripe (payments), pCloud (backups, and recording links if you ask for one) and SMTP2GO (delivering booking and sign-in email).

It is not sold, and it is not passed to anyone else except as described on this page.

The music players

Some pages embed players from SoundCloud and Bandcamp. When a page with a player loads, those companies' servers are contacted directly by your browser, under their own privacy policies.

How long it is kept

Drawings stay on the wall until they are removed. Your account, your lesson history, your recordings and the activity record are kept for as long as I am teaching, so an old lesson does not disappear on you. What is here is kept until you ask for it to be deleted. Short-lived technical records — sign-in codes, session tokens, expired booking holds and expiring links — clear themselves automatically within a day or two.

Removing something you drew

Email the address below, describe the drawing and roughly when you posted it, and it will be taken down. If you want the data behind it deleted as well, say so and it will be.

Deleting everything else

Email hello@keota.audio and ask, and your account, your profile, your activity record and your lesson recordings index are deleted, and the recording files I delete by hand. What is kept back:

• Records of money — what you paid and when — for as long as tax law requires them to be kept.
• If you have been banned — from the site, from my Discord, or from my lessons and services generally — the details used to enforce that ban. Otherwise deleting your data would be a way back in.
• A scrambled fingerprint of the identifiers you used — so that re-importing an old booking or patron export later does not silently recreate you. It cannot be turned back into your address.
• Where you appear in someone else's record — a stream subscriber list, a shared recording link — your name is replaced with "(deleted)" rather than the record being removed.

Your rights

If you are in the EU or UK you have the right to ask what is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to your data protection authority. If you are in the United States, ask for the same things and you will get them — I do not wait for a law to require it.

If you have booked a lesson or signed in, we hold your name and email address, so we can find your records and act on a request straight away — including the whole of what is described under "What I keep about students, patrons and subscribers" above. For the drawing wall it is different: the only thing stored is a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into your address, so we may not be able to match a request to a particular drawing unless you describe it.
